Ex-OgunPoly alumni association donates solar power unit to alma mater
The 1991set of Association of Business Administration Students, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta has donated a multi-million naira solar-powered light project to commemorate their 32nd anniversary since leaving the institution.
Bola Agboola, Chairman of the set, noted that the project would ensure constant power supply and reduce cost in the running of affairs in the institution.
“We are here to inaugurate and hand over a remarkable Solar powered energy, executed by the men and women of Association of Business Administration Department, who once walked the halls of this great institution as young students.
“This project epitomises our unwavering commitment to unity of purpose in developing our school’s infrastructure and ensuring the well-being of its students. Its impact will extend beyond the students to encompass the entire school community, promoting prompt service delivery most especially, the Bursary department and the office of the Rector.
He said the solar power unit was donated to address the epileptic power supply which was affecting smooth running of the school.
“The donation is to mark our 32nd anniversary and assist in power supply to the Bursary department during financial interaction, and other activities that the students would be engaging with the institution.
He said the gesture would have multiplier effect advantages because many activities in the school were dependent on steady power supply.
The Chairman of the project implementation of the set, Dr Olatunji Sule, thanked the Rector of the Institution, Dr Adeoye Odedeji, for his dedication and encouragement of collaborations between alumni organisations and their alma mater.
He acknowledged the exemplary leadership of the Rector who advised on the choice of the project to be implemented by the Association, and for the fatherly roles he played in ensuring that within few days the project came into reality.
He said: “This project was conceived when we, the members of the 1991 Set, decided to celebrate our 32nd-year milestone since leaving OgunPoly. Many of us had not seen each other for over three decades, and today marks the first time a vast majority of us have reunited. We give glory to God.
“Through the adoption of technology, collaborative systems, and social media, we discovered and kept in touch with one another, and in one of Our discussion with you and Our people, We agreed on pursuing an innovative project that would ignite our imaginations and revitalise our spirits. Thus, we decided on this Solar electricity, as it not only promotes constant power supply in the areas it is covering, but also illuminates and ensure prompt service delivery, while also embracing environmentally friendly green and clean energy.”
He urged the institution to optimally used the solar so as to increase its longevity.
In his reaction, the Rector, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Dr Adeoye Odedeji thanked the Ex-students for their magnanimity and love for their Alma mater, saying that the donation will go a long way in reducing cost in the daily service delivery in the institution.
Dr Odedeji said government’s resources are insufficient to fund education adequately, particularly at the tertiary level,he therefore called on alumni association to always come to the aid of the institution.
He also encouraged private sectors and stakeholders to invest in tertiary education.
“Before now, a lot of our old friends have been using their influence to help the school maintain infrastructure or add infrastructure to the school; one of our old students, the Accountant General of the Federation and her Set are helping us facilitate a building within the institution, and then another set did the Studio and Our online Radio.
Dr Odedeji said there was a need for all stakeholders to fund education in partnership with the government.
“Education in Nigeria, we are having a problem with maintaining quality because the government alone cannot fund education, so we need other stakeholders in the funding of education.
