Hilda Baci, the Nigerian chef, has been dethroned as the individual with the world’s longest cooking marathon record.

The Guinness World Records (GWR) announced Alan Fisher, the Irish-born owner and chef of a restaurant in Japan, as the new record holder, on Tuesday.

Fisher, who is from Ireland, was said to have broken two cooking-related GWR titles.

He secured the longest cooking marathon (individual) after clocking in a time of 119 hours 57 minutes.

He thereafter claimed the longest baking marathon (individual), with a time of 47 hours 21 minutes, beating the previous record holder — Wendy Sandner (USA) — with a time of 31 hours 16 minutes.

“What’s even more impressive is that Alan took on both attempts back to back, meaning he was at work in the kitchen for over 160 hours with just over a day of rest in between!” a statement from GWR reads in part.

“During a break, he searched on the internet to find out that the record at the time was held by Lata Tondon (India) with a time of 87 hours 45 minutes. Then in May, Alan realized that Hilda Baci had extended the record to 93 hours and 11 minutes.”

In June, Baci was certified by GWR as the record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

In an interview, Baci announced plans to turn her cook-a-thon into a festival.
