Ogunpoly Alumni appeal to Dapo Abiodun to intervene in the appointment of a rector for the institution

The Alumni Association of Ogun State Polytechnic of Health And Allied Sciences, Ilese, Ijebu has appealed to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to wade into the crisis surrounding the appointment of a substantive Rector for the Polytechnic.
The Association alleged that the recommended candidate for the Rectorship position for the institution was unqualified.
The call was made by Olayiwola Olayide, National President of the Alumni Association of the institution, alongside some members of the National Executive Council (NEC) in a press briefing held on Monday at the NUJ secretariat, Iwe iroyin Abeokuta.
Olayide stated that the recommended candidate, Dr. Akinbo Razaki Yinka, does not have post-doctorate experience as expressed in the advertisement for the post, as he had just bagged his PhD after the closure of the submission of interest.
According to the Alumni National President, Dr. Akinbo obtained his Doctorate certificate on July 6th, 2023 while the submission of the application form and credentials closed on June 16, 2023.
The Alumni while appreciating Dapo Abiodun for his transformation agenda towards the institution appealed for him to look into the alleged screening process and give the institution the best hand that possesses the requirements as published.
They also called on other old students of the Polytechnic to give back to their alma mata for the rapid growth of the institution.
“While we are calling all our Alumni both home and in the diaspora to look back and give back to our Alma mater for the rapid growth of the institution, we passionately appeal to the government to assist more especially in the area of infrastructure
“Such as internal and external road networks and, the construction of more lecture rooms and Halls.
“Face-lift of the hostel accommodations, equipment of the school clinic with modern medical facilities and personnel, etc., to meet with the required standard of her new status.”
“We would like to draw the attention of His Excellency to different write-ups, blogging, and publications flying around following the Rectorship Screening of our institution, There have been allegations and counter allegations which if not addressed may not project the image of our Alma Mater positively this which the Alumni Association has jealously guided,
“We have read that the screening process has recommended a candidate in their best opinion but with the recent publications pointing to the fault in the recommendation is a thing to worry about and we wish you look into this critically Sir.
“Your Excellency Sir, we are passionate and determined to give the necessary support to your government to bring rapid development to the Oldest institution in Ogun state we have demonstrated in the past by the donation of a Library, our resolve to complete the ongoing 500-seat capacity lecture hall we are currently undertaking.
“However, the Alumni Association is worried and disturbed by the ugly development, especially at a time when our Alma Mater is getting the needed attention it deserves from the Government on this note we are humbly appealing that His Excellency should critically look into the alleged screening process and give our Alma Mater the best hand that possesses the requirements as published.
“Sincerely, Your Excellency, Our investigations revealed that the recommended candidate does not have post-doctorate experience since he just bagged his PhD after the closure of the submission of interest.
“We are not unaware that His Excellency has the final say on this issue but we are strongly appealing that Our Governor, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR who is a patriotic man will look into this issue and use his good offices to ensure Round Peg is put into a round hole for the betterment of our dear State, Ogun State.
Conclusively, while we are calling all our Alumni both home and in the diaspora to look back and give back to our Alma mater for the rapid growth of the institution, we passionately appeal to the government to assist more especially in the area of infrastructure such as; Internal and external Road network, Construction of more lecture rooms and Hall, Facelift of the Hostel Accommodations, Equipment of the school clinic with modern medical facilities and personnel etc. to meet with the required standard of her new status.
