A 37-year-old man, Chiemela Victor Ekeke, has been apprehended for raping a four-year-old girl at Eze Ogbulafor Street in Umuahia, Abia State.

Ekeke, who claimed to be from Ndioru in Ikwuano LGA, was accused of defiling the child on Friday after sneaking into the home of the innocent girl’s parents after the mother had gone out to buy some items.

He took the little girl into one room in the building, where he raped her and inflicted injuries on her private parts.

The suspects ran out of luck when the mother of the victim returned home to meet her daughter in pain, with drops of blood observed inside the room. The terrified mother raised an alarm, which attracted neighbours to the scene.

A neighbour who saw the alleged rapist enter the house promptly identified him, leading to his arrest.

During interrogation by the crowd, the suspect denied defiling the little girl but claimed that “I only carried her in my laps and touched her in the genitals.”

He further claimed that he came to repay the N3,000 debt he owed someone in the yard.

Ekeke, who blamed the devil for his evil act, was later handed over to the Police for investigation and prosecution.

Chioma Maureen Chinaka, Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Police Command, confirmed the story, adding that the command is currently investigating it.

This incident occurs at the same time that a suspended pastor of the Assembly of God Church was denied bail by an Aba Magistrate Court for allegedly raping his 13-year-old house help.
