Bolatito, the wife of Timothy Adegoke, the late postgraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), has claimed she was offered N71 million to drop the suit against her husband’s killer.

Adegoke travelled from Abuja to write an exam at a distance learning centre of OAU in Moro, Osun state, on November 5, 2021.

He lodged at Hilton Hotel but was declared missing two days later — only to be found dead.

The court recently sentenced Rahman Adedoyin, the hotel owner, alongside two others to death over Adegoke’s murder.

Adedeji Adesola, the hotel receptionist who was on duty when Adegoke lodged at the hotel, was also sentenced to two years in jail.

In an interview with The Nation, Bolatito alleged she was threatened by some people to withdraw the case but she insisted on getting justice.

“I was once offered a bribe of N71 million to withdraw the case against Adedoyin, but I rejected it. They offered the same to my husband’s elder brother, which he rejected. They started threatening him, but God took all the glory,” she said.

“The person that was sent to us said the money was for us to forget the case. He promised to get us a shop so that I would be selling goods. I told the person that I was not interested in the money but justice for my late husband.”

The widow commended the judiciary for the judgement, adding that it rekindled her hope in the country’s justice system.

“Yes, my hope in the judiciary with this case has been rekindled. Some people are casting doubt that he (Adedoyin) might be replaced in prison, but I told them that God, who started His work, would finish it,” she added.

“I don’t have any problem with that. My confidence is in God. He stood by me, fought for me and vindicated me.”
