TV legend Jerry Springer dies at 79 after cancer battle
Jerry Springer, the legendary talk show host, has passed away at the age of 79.
The ‘Jerry Springer Show’ host died peacefully at his Chicago home Thursday, his family announced.
In a statement, Jene Galvin, the spokesman for the family, described him as “irreplaceable”.
“Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word,” the statement reads.
“He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humour will live on.”
According to Daily Mail UK, the controversial figure had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few months ago. The cancer also took a turn for the worse this week.
Before becoming a TV host, Springer was a politician who served on Cincinnati’s city council in 1971. He became the city’s mayor in 1977.
He served one term before transitioning into a successful broadcasting career.
Springer hosted the syndicated talk show ‘The Jerry Springer Show’ for 27 years, where he provided a platform for guests to discuss their personal lives and relationships.
He is survived by Katie Springer, his 47-year-old daughter, whom he shared with ex-wife Micki Velton, and his older sister, Evelyn.
