A 22-year-old-trader identified as Kingsley Isaac has been sentenced to three months in prison by a Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court on Monday in Abuja for stealing two chickens worth N8,000.

The police charged Isaac with theft.

The Area Court judge, Saminu Suleiman, offered Isaac a choice of N10,000 fine and N45,000 in restitution to the complainant.

The prosecution attorney, Chinedu Ogada, informed the court that the conviction was for an offence that occurred on March 11.

Ogada said Abdulaziz Salihu of the same address had on March 11 filed a police report about the incident at the Zuba Police Station at 2 am.

According to him: “Isaac went to the complainant’s house and made away with his two chickens valued at N8,000 without his consent. The convict opened the complainant’s car, stole car parts worth N35, 000 and sold it to an unknown person. But was later caught and handed over to the police for proper investigation.”

The prosecutor added that the convict made a confessional statement during interrogation by police.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code
