Four students of the Kogi State Polytechnic in Lokoja have reportedly been kidnapped by gunmen along the Akunnu-Ajowa road in Akoko north LGA of Ondo state.

It is understood that the students were returning home for the Christmas holidays on Friday when they were kidnapped.

According to Punch, Muri Agboola, Ikare Area commander of Ondo state police, confirmed the incident.

Agboola said he has deployed his men to comb the forests along the Akunnu-Ajowa Akoko road to rescue the abducted students.

Efforts by Our Correspondent to reach Funmi Odunlami, the state police spokesperson, on the matter proved abortive.

Odunlami did not respond to calls and text messages sent to her as of the time of this report.

Salient Times report that there have been growing concerns over the widespread insecurity in the country.

The development has also elicited mixed reactions with Nigerians asking the government to address the situation.

In July, Ime Bishop Umoh, the Nollywood actor better known as Okon Lagos, advised the federal government to ask the international community for help in tackling insecurity.

According to him, Nigeria alone can no longer deal decisively with the level of insecurity confronting it.

“Nigeria is helplessly drowned in insecurity. Our leaders are pretending that all is well. International community abeg force help on us if u must oooo,” he had said.
