….says institution Graduates Are Most Sought After By Employers
The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Oba Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, has applauded Media practitioners, most especially the Public Relations Directorate of the University for the supportive role in projecting the image of the University to the outside world.
Oba Olabomi gave the commendation at the dinner/ interactive night with the Public Relations Directorate of the University and media practitioners held on Wednesday at the school premises.
The Pro-Chancellor who is the Aragbaji of Iragbajiland, in Osun State, said the works and dedication of the Media Practitioners have assisted in placing the graduates of the University as the most sought after among Nigerian universities by employers of labour in the country
He stated that the university’s public image has improved significantly since the council’s inauguration in July 2024.
The Pro-Chancellor attributed this success to the efforts of the PR directorate headed by Mr Olasukanmi Olajide and other media practitioners in projecting the university’s achievements.
The royal father attributed the high quality graduates being produced in the university to peaceful academic environment being enjoined by students, couple with robust 21st Century academic programmes which has scaled up products of the institution
,’The University has very good infrastructural layout apart from congenial town and gown relationship, staff development and welfare facilities as well as security of lives and properties of the members of the University Community”, he stated
While appreciating the role of Public Relations Directorate under the headship of Mr. Olajide Olasunkanmi, Oba Olabomi said the professional ways the directorate has been handling the University image has positively impacted the rating of the University to the outside world.
“The works of the directorate and media partners have assisted in keeping members of the public aware of the great exploits which the University has been making in the area of Training, Research and Community Engagements
Oba Olabomi urged media practitioners to be more dedicated, supportive, and resilient in promoting the university’s image, emphasising the need for more people to be aware of the university’s good works.
The Pro-Chancellor commended the university’s management, staff, and students for their focus on the university’s core principles of teaching, research, and community engagement. He also appreciated the Vice-Chancellor.
This feat could not have been accomplished by extra-terrestrial forces. The Human Resources that have done the magic are all the Public Relations personnel and Journalists that are gathered in this hall”, he stated
“I need to specially thank the Management led by Prof. Olusola Babatunde Kehinde for ensuring the necessary support and encouragement given to the Public Relations Directorate, the FUNAAB Radio and all the personnel who provide contents that have helped to facilitate a leap in information dissemination within the University in the past twelve months or more”,
The reward of hard work is more work. Please regard this interaction as a call to be more dedicated, more supportive and more resilient to bolster the image of this University all over the world, and to such an extent that the deaf will hear while the blind shall see the good works that FUNAAB is doing”he concluded
Earlier, The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Kehinde, commended the workers in the Public Relations Directorate and the Media for their due diligence and adequate coverage of the activities of the institution which has seen FUNAAB being ranked as number one university of agriculture in Africa and seventh in the world
He assured that the university would ensure a stronger relationship with the media, to sustain the culture of academic excellence and enhance the positive image of FUNAAB
“We have to appreciate members of the Directorate of Public Relations and also the community. Also, the media in the state that have been assisting them, because you’ve been projecting the image of the university in a positive light”.
“Yes, we are trying our best at our end to ensure that we do the best for our students and we maintain the high standard of integrity, of excellence, of innovation, of global elements and of service, which are the core values of our university”.
In his welcome address, the Acting Head of Directorate of Public Relations of FUNAAB, Olajide Olasukanmi was full of appreciation to the governing council and management of the university for creating a very conducive working environment for personnel in the Directorate to thrive through regular training to enhance the skills of Public Relations Executives.
He pledged a more cordial relationship with the media for sustenance of positive image for the university
In his good will message, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, urged the management to continue supporting the head of the PR Unit of the school.
He affirmed that the Head of the Unit, Mr Olajide Olasunkanmi, has bridged the gap between town and gown, thereby ensuring that the image of the school is projected in positive ways.
