A first-class traditional ruler in Ogun State, Alayeluwa Oba (Prof.) Olusegun MacGregor of Ilawo Kingdom, Egbaland, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing a new Inspector-General of Police, describing the move as bold, strategic, and timely.
In an interview with reporters in Abeokuta, the monarch said the leadership change at the helm of the Nigeria Police Force signals a renewed commitment to restoring discipline, professionalism, and public trust in the nation’s policing system.
Oba MacGregor noted that the appointment of Olatunji Rilwan Disu reflects the President’s determination to reposition the police for improved performance amid growing security concerns across the country.
According to him, Nigerians should expect a significant transformation in policing, as the new IGP brings with him a wealth of experience, operational expertise, and a track record of effective service delivery.
He emphasized that the country is in dire need of a police chief who understands field operations and is capable of addressing both external security threats and internal institutional challenges within the force.
The monarch further expressed optimism that under Disu’s leadership, the Nigeria Police Force would witness enhanced intelligence gathering, improved community relations, and a more proactive approach to crime prevention.
Oba MacGregor also urged officers and men of the force to support the new IGP in achieving his mandate, stressing that meaningful reform requires collective effort and commitment at all levels.
He called on Nigerians to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information, noting that public participation remains crucial to achieving lasting peace and security.
While acknowledging the challenges ahead, the royal father maintained that the new leadership offers a fresh opportunity to rebuild confidence in the police and strengthen national security architecture.
He concluded by reaffirming the traditional institution’s support for initiatives aimed at promoting safety, stability, and good governance across the country.
