Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has set a target of no fewer than 10,000 beneficiaries in Lagos suburbs as part of activities marking his 89th birthday anniversary.
The large-scale medical outreach, organised under the auspices of the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation (OOF), will provide comprehensive healthcare services free of charge to residents in selected communities across the state.
In a statement issued at the weekend by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, the Lagos Medical Mission is scheduled to hold in Ikorodu and Alimosho Local Government Areas between February 27 and March 4, 2026.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Dr. Olalekan Makinde, the initiative is designed as a legacy-driven humanitarian intervention in celebration of Obasanjo’s 89th birthday.
Makinde said the outreach reflects the former President’s lifelong commitment to service, nation-building and the well-being of Nigerians.
He explained that the exercise will commence on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Ijede LCDA Council Hall, Ijede, Ikorodu, and continue on Saturday, February 28, at Imota Mini Stadium, Imota, Ikorodu.
The mission will then move to Alade Stadium, Command Road, Agbado/Oke-Odo in Alimosho from Monday, March 2 to Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
Makinde disclosed that beneficiaries would receive free ear care services, including hearing assessments and provision of hearing aids for qualified individuals
He added that comprehensive eye care services would also be offered, including detailed eye screenings, prescription glasses, referrals and sponsorship for necessary eye surgeries.
The outreach will further provide free cardiovascular screening, including blood pressure checks, heart health assessments and preventive medical counselling.
General medical consultations, diagnosis, treatment and distribution of essential medications at no cost will also form part of the programme.
Makinde emphasised that through the Lagos Medical Mission, the Foundation continues to embody Obasanjo’s vision of accessible healthcare and compassionate intervention for underserved communities.
“As we celebrate the 89th birthday of His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, we honour his legacy in the most meaningful way possible — by serving the people,” he stated.
He noted that the outreach is open to elderly citizens, children and families, individuals living with untreated hearing or vision challenges, persons with cardiovascular concerns, and low-income and vulnerable residents across Lagos.
Residents were encouraged to arrive early at the designated venues, as services would be rendered strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation is a humanitarian organisation focused on strategic interventions in health, education, agriculture, youth empowerment and community development. Its Hearing Programme, according to the organisers, has restored hearing and renewed hope to thousands of beneficiaries within and outside Nigeria.
The 89th birthday medical mission, the Foundation said, stands as a tribute to Obasanjo’s enduring legacy of leadership and commitment to humanity.
